Atlanta To Play Key Role As Amazon Takes On UPS, FedEx With New Logistics Business

Amazon is targeting its biggest partners, including Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Inc., with a new in-house shipping service. And, Atlanta is expected to play a key role in that battle. With its new SWA service (“Shipping with Amazon”), the Seattle-based Internet behemoth will directly pick up packages from businesses and ship them to consumers, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday. The delivery service will initially roll out in Los Angeles with third-party merchants that sell goods via its website. The program is expected to eventually be opened to other businesses too.
